ZIPPERGRIN, formed by gavin reign, is a solo project based on one simple concept;
rock music that knows no boundaries.
the project's only member, gavin reign, has drawn upon the influences of NINE INCH NAILS, MARILYN MANSON, TOM WAITS, ALICE IN CHAINS, and STONE TEMPLE PILOTS to create an amalgam of sounds that would paint the picture that was his past, and also attempt to capture the quintessence of his present through bemoaning verses and wrathful choruses...all while using guitars, drums, synthesizers, clarinets, loops, and the wrecking-ball that is his voice.
during a brief two year stint at boston university’s theatre studies program, the frustrated front man began turning to music as his primary outlet. while still attempting to keep his previous new york based band together [flying home every weekend that he could]
he began experimenting with a simple TASCAM 8-track tape recorder…
incorporating beats and loops from various software, and layering it with his own bass, guitar, and vocal lines.
after experiencing working with theatre sound design projects and working closely with various students in the conservatory of music, his mind was made up to return to new york…now loaded with new ideas on composition and dozens of new songs to translate into a live performance.
the next move was simple…audition for SUNY purchase’s studio production program. after quickly securing one of the few spots in the program, he tore headfirst into the world of soft-synths and digital recording without missing a beat. now, just a few years later, he is heralded as an up-and-coming producer/composer by peers and faculty alike. having been carefully advised on his musical career by veteran producer JOE FERRY, he is near completion of his studies at SUNY and likewise his first solo record.
the new self-released solo album, “ladies & gentlemen“ [available winter 2005], is steeped in revamped [and re-recorded] songs from previous projects [such as "muscle boy [reborn]"] and new revelations [such as "beauty & apocalypse"], which had spawned out of the disgust of attempting to find a new band...but all ended up sounding alike.
while the rest of the world sleeps, the ZIPPERGRIN project marches forward in an endless barrage of prolificacy.
so, don't blink...or you'll miss the carnage.
