| Formed in 1999 in Vitoria-Brazil, Zémaria is a combo of musicians, music producers and plastic artists who brought up a 5 piece band with the traditional stage set plus synths, laptops and samplers using electronica to shape their music as well as live drums, bass and guitar to give it that raw cut.
The result is a mixture of styles that blends electrohouse, bossa-nova, breakbeat in the same pot with rock, synthpop and soulful brazilian grooves, sometimes in the same set. The self-titled first album came out in july 2002, by the local independent label Lona Records and got massive response by the music media related and brazilian musicians all over.
Zémaria is currently living in Sao Paulo and has its first European tour scheduled to august 2005.
The group also got 4 videos released, aired on national TV Channels such as Globo and MTV-Brazil for the past 3 years, and it’s currently performing live concerts in Sao Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Espirito Santo and Minas Gerais as a live band or as a “Zemaria Redux” mode which is the live PA version and totally electronic set made to suit a more specific audience in clubs etc. Zémaria was also present at the "Skol Beats 2003", one of the biggest electronic music festival in the world, playing at the main stage in São Paulo.
Some music from the band can be found in three compilations that are distributed in America, UK, Europe and Japan, they are "Chill Zone 03" (mbb/zyx), “Nu Brazil 2”, “Musica do Brasil” (mbb/sony) and "Cafe Copacabana Vol. 2" from ZYX Records (Germany). |
